Building for Brussels – or – how to face new social challenges?

In 2010, Brussels Capital Region organised an exhibition Building for Brussels – Architecture and Urban Planning in Europe.

We found some videos that were made for the exhibition. In these videos, architects, urban planners and politicians argue how a powerful architectural and urban planning policy can provide answers to the new social challenges of Brussels. The videos are already two years old, but they offer a view on Brussels’ solutions for major urban topics (demography, mobility, public facilities, etc.)

In its search for answers, Brussels is well aware that it is one step behind of other important European cities. They therefore look towards other major European cities like Madrid, Zürich, Hamburg and Rotterdam to see what policies worked there.

As far as we can tell, few of these proposed policies have been implemented.
